I am pretty excited I have decided to add Tate's Island Grill to my rotation of must stop spots in Clearwater Beach when I don't have my doggie with me. I love how it's on the beach. I love how carefree and comfortable it is, and I love that I can feel like I'm in vacation mode. We came for drinks. We simply walked from the beach to here, grabbed a spot by the bar, had a nice view by the pool and the lush palm trees, and drank up our frozen drinks, a Pina colada and Miami Vice - combo of strawberry daiquiri and Pina colada. Totally froo froo and fun. You can also eat here. They have apps, burgers, sandwiches, salads, and 'sserts. This spot is perfect for when the sunset comes. You can sit by the bon fire or the hammocks. It's in the back of Sandpearl resort, but public are invited. Love this spot, and our bartender took care of us. Happy Place!!!!!!

This was our favorite dinner experience, which combined a casual atmosphere, without the usual loud and boisterous beach drunk vibe, good food, and an AMAZING sunset view. Located on the beach as part of the Sandpearl Beach Resort, this place served mostly sandwiches and salads, a few appetizer options, and a wide variety of drinks. I had a side salad (fresh lettuce, tomato, cheese, croutons, ranch) that I would describe as a solid standard, a Cuban sandwich and house made chips. The Cuban came with mayo on the side, which I prefer, as I'm not in to overly sauces stuff. The chips were yummy. I ended up with over half my meal left for lunch back at the condo the next day. Hubby had one of the wraps and seemed to enjoy it. We split a hummus appetizer; the pita was done well but the dip itself was not great. I wouldn't order this again. Our server was very welcoming and attentive. I felt that the price was very reasonable, especially for the added sunset view and atmosphere! We agreed that this was one of the most enjoyable moments of our trip!

My friends and I wanted to have dinner on the beach and watch the sunset and after reading several Yelp reviews on different eating establishments in Clearwater this is the one I picked! The location could not be more perfect! We valet parked at the beautiful resort and sat right on the beach with THE most beautiful view! Could not have picked a better location. The only downfall is the food is wayyyyyy too overpriced! We spent $50 for wings, a sandwich and fries!? And it wasn't even like high quality food. Nothing spectacular. The menu is pretty small, I kind of expected there to be a little more than what they offered. Come here for the views but eat somewhere more sensible!

You can't find a more relaxing place to enjoy a delicious lunch with an icy drink in your hand. Tate's is right next to the Sandpearl pool and opens right to the white sand of Clearwater Beach. The view is obviously incredible, and I like that the restaurant is open- don't worry though, there is an indoor part in case there is rain. The grouper nuggets here are so crispy and delicious. They are easily the best in the area. I always order the Caesar wrap with shrimp, and I am always left satisfied. The shrimp are nice and big and add a nice sweet flavor to the homemade Caesar. The house/made chips are also worth talking about- they're tossed in a special blend of spices and are fried to crispy perfection. I love the drink menu here, too. I tend to typically go with a piña colada- always a good choice, but I've also dabbled with the blue pearl (those will get you! You don't even notice how much alcohol is in this) and a few other mixed drinks. I just don't think you can really go wrong with any of the drinks here. This is a place I visit almost every time I'm at the beach!

Great view to watch the sunset. Frozen drinks were yummy, as well as the food. We ordered the guacamole and shared a blue cheese burger.

Well I can't really say much about the food, because I haven't tried too much of it.... But the pitcher of sangria is the best I've ever had. The beautiful environment, right on the beach, may have something to do with why the sangria tastes so good though. I go here by myself a lot when I'm stressed out and need a drink.... or a pitcher :) I'd recommend it to anyone, for sure. At least to try it out, if nothing else.

There are few places in clearwater that offer an upscale casual eating experience like this one! This a place you certainly don't want to miss. It is part of the sandpearl resort. It has a breathtaking views of the water. The setting is casual, and the food is pretty good. Whether to have a light lunch or you stop there for a drink during the sunset, you won't be disappointed.

Great restaurant if your looking for something a little more refined but still laid back and beachy in Clearwater. Personable and friendly wait staff. Great drinks and apps (pitcher of margs) and lastly, ask for Karen. She's the best!

The only thing good about this place is the view & the staff. But the food is awful!!! And the appetizers are small & expensive for the portions. I would only recommend this place for drinks. To give you an idea of the food .... I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich. One of my co workers ordered a burger. But unless you like the taste of charcoal then don't order anything that comes of a grill. Including the buns for burgers/sandwich. I was here on buisness so money isn't an issue since its expensed. But it was bad enough I sent it back & ate somewhere else.

This is actually part of The Sandpearl. We walked through the lobby and found it around back. We had the Gin Cucumber Fizz and it was cool and refreshing. The Caribbean Grouper Sandwich was perfection.

Tate Island Grill is described on the Sandpearl web site as "relaxed dining" and "casual cuisine," and that it is, except the prices don't reflect that. The drinks are good but they are in tiny plastic cups that are at least $10 each. The menu isn't big but it has a little of everything: appetizers, burgers, wraps, sandwiches, salads, and a few steak and seafood entrees. These dishes are priced a bit high based on the taste of the food (in my opinion). For example, there's a Jumbo Hot Dog (Hebrew National Jumbo Hot Dog with Tate's Sweet Onion Relish Served in a Warm Bun) for $10. This hot dog better be darn good and big. My bf and I each ordered a drink and for our entrees he got the Sugarcane Shrimp Salad (Baby Greens, Mango, Crisp Plantains, Chili Lime Dressing) while I got the New York Strip Steak (House Cut All Natural 8oz). Overall, the bf's salad was good. The bf liked it just fine but I found the dressing a bit too sweet. As for my entree, I had ordered my steak med-rare but it came out pretty much well-done, so I had to send it back. Once I was able to eat my steak, I didn't care for it much. The wellness was done right this time around but the way it was cooked wasn't quite how it should be (should be crunchy on the outside and the right temp inside). My steak entree includes coconut rice (quite delicious) and veggies (lack taste). We chose Tate Island Grill because of the patio seating facing the water, and from there you can watch the sunset (depends on where you sit, a part is blocked by sand dunes). If not for the great view, I doubt if I'd ever come back.

The views are good but the service and food was lacking. The calamari was rubbery and flavorless. I remembered stuffed shrimp being on the menu from a few years ago. Much better choices then. Beer was served warm too.

Great location, fresh food and acceptable prices for a hotel restaurant. I am giving them 3 stars because the service was horrible (not friendly at all) and slow. It took them almost an hour to bring our food. I would never visit it again.

The grouper nuggets were fresh and quite tasty, but the really attraction is the great view of the sunset on Clearwater beach.

Had dinner here our last night in Clearwater. Great location on the beach and easy to get to whether or not you're staying at the Sandpearl. We started out with the pulled pork nachos. Yes, they were as good as they sound. Lots of flavor with a generous amount of pulled pork and cheese layered on the chips. They were definitely filling and we probably would've been ok just splitting nachos for dinner. For dinner, I had the grilled salmon in a brown sugar glaze. It was good, but the glaze was thick and I could feel it sticking to my teeth. The salmon was served with veggies and rice. While the food was good, the selling point for this place is definitely its location on the beach. Worth checking out.

Best food on the beach. Good he views and atmosphere. Outside seating and inside. Highly recommended

Great place! Great view, drinks, and the grouper sandwich might be a little better than Frenchy's that is just down the beach! Give 'er a visit!

  • Tracey R.

The food was good. They had the best Bleu Burger I have had in a while. The drink prices were typical for a resort on the beach. The atmosphere here is great. We love the fire pit on the beach and the nice breeze that comes through the open bar area. The older kids can play on the beach or in the pool while you enjoy a drink at the bar.

No complaints, but compared to a couple of other nearby places, Tate's is just OK. We ordered drinks by the pitcher instead of by the small plastic cup, and stuck to the appetizers. The guacamole is great, as are the grouper nuggets and the veggie quesadilla. The view of the gulf and the sunsets cannot be beat, and that earns it an extra star. If you're staying at the Sandpearl, the convenience can't be beat.

I was in the area on business and stumbled upon this great little place on the beach. The food was delicious (I had the crab stuffed shrimp) and the scenery was spectacular. Prices were reasonable as well. I will definitely come back the next time I'm in the area. And my server Kim was friendly and helpful.

Four stars for an incredible burger and spectacular view, would have been five if the service had not been so remarkably slow. The Tate Island Grill is located poolside at the Sandpearl Resort. It has indoor and outdoor seating, right next to the gorgeous white sands of Clearwater Beach. I tried the Miami Vice frozen concoction and Surf N Turf burger. The drink was recommended by our server, and tasty but a little watery and not a lot of alcohol. I'm not a big drinker and at $9 I probably wouldn't get this again. My burger was amazing, probably the best I've ever had. $16 and was topped with cheese, fresh crisp vegetables and several perfectly cooked shrimp. I wasn't sure about the combo, but it was delicious. The burger was cooked properly to order and came out it with fresh homemade chips (American style). The service was slow and nothing to write home about. However the spectacular sunset more than made up for the slow service. We were happy not to be rushed! The hotel itself is wonderful, and I'm definitely planning to return again.

A-OK if you're staying at Sandpearl. View was great. I went down here for dinner with a book during sunset and it was a nice view. The food and service were just ok. During my week at the Sandpearl, I had the quesadilla, which was a standard hotel quesadilla, and the fish sandwich, which was subpar (and not as good as Frenchys across the street) and did not seem very fresh. The fries were good. The basket was $3 and could easily be split between 2 or 3 people (even 4 people, really).

We ate at the Tate Island Grill and ordered multiple drinks many, many time during our stay at the Sandpearl resort and found the food fantastic, the service excellent, but the drinks (not surprisingly) expensive. We enjoyed everything we ordered, particularly the special Blue Pearl. So happy that the Grill is adjacent to the pool and beach at the resort. Loved it.

This review is related to the atmosphere this place offers during a sunset. Double thumbs up and the most romantic spot of the beach to watch the sun set on Clearwater. Did not eat here; although I wanted too; the rest of our group wanted to go Italian so we had a few drinks, watched the orange dot disappear then bolted. Want to rekindle any smoldering ashes and get close to your spouse/mate, then this is the place to do it. . . during a sunset.

Food: Delicious and high quality Location: Directly on the beach, like you are literally sitting next to the sand. It is cute, open and the view is beautiful. You are looking out over the dunes and towards Clearwater Beach. Service: Snappy, helpful and cheerful. I would come here often if I was a local. Very glad my good friend took me out today, she knows how to roll CW style.

This is a chill, great scenery and food restaurant/bar behind the sand pearl hotel. My friend and i enjoyed the chicken sandwhich and mojitos a few nights ago. Buy beware...make sure and check your receipt, we ordered mojitos and they arrived in very large glasses. Delicious and for $9.5 def worth it. We went back a few nights later for a drink and again ordered mojitos this time they arrived in a smaller glass. My friend and i were so confused...when we asked the waiter he said maybe the bar tender had messed up 2 nights ago...long story short we found the receipt and the other waitress had charged us for doubles which we hadn't ordered and we didn't examine the receipt close enough that night. Shady waitress! This waiter ended up making it good with us, but as a caution double check those tickets! We even called in the previous waitresa to confirm we weren't crazy and had larger cups before...she was like oh yeah i remember you i bet the bartender made a mistake.

Nice little restaurant right on the beach at the Sandpearl resort. Ate here a couple times for dinner and it was a nice enviroment, very good food, and what I thought was reasonable prices for the quality. Also had some great beach drink options. My only issue with it is that if there aren't a lot of people there, it is quite dark. I guess this gives you a more secluded feel or something, but I would have like a little more light. Other than that, it's a great place on the beach. Regarding the menu, I would recommend the pulled pork nachos and the Fiesta burger! Both were incredible.

The view is spectacular and you can't beat the location and relaxed atmosphere. I have been here before the cocktails are around $10. each and are not strong (plastic up- loads of ice). Dinner was chile lime salmon - the fish was delicious but the island rice was just plain white rice and the edamame succotash tasted like defrosted bag of frozen veggies. $17. was a little too much for small filet of good salmon. The appetizers are better bets. The shrimp skewer salad was great the last time I was here. Again the view makes it the best place to grab a drink and app anywhere around here. There is a beautiful area with adirondack chairs around a campfire which looks appealing too- I haven't tried it yet.

This place is sitting behind the Sand Pearl, on Clearwater Beach. It is certainly one of the best views in town, if you like the beach and the water. The food and drinks are good, not great but a nice firm good.

The view is good and location is excelent. But food quality is average steak in the pocture was cooked to death and was low quality. Drinks were ok. They need to improve food quality.

What a gorgeous spot. After years of living in the area and now returning for a visit, it's great to have another beachside choice besides Frenchy's. This upscale outdoor dining spot is perfect for drinking beachy drinks, watching beach goers and enjoying a great sandwich. I had a Carribean grouper sandwich, my husband had a terrific burger. it was the best he had during our Florida visit.

It was OK. I think I would have enjoyed it more for lunch. We didn't get a view after the sun went down. A little overpriced, but you won't be disappointed.

Food is excellent. Service is excellent. The wait staff couldn't have been more polite. Pulled pork nachos are delicious. So is the Cuban Sandwich. The view of the beach and ocean from the patio though is why you go.

I'm torn between 4 and 5 stars for Tate's. My family has been vacationing at The Sandpearl every year since it opened, and while the quality of the food at Tate's has remained consistent from the beginning, value and service have declined somewhat. Tate's menu is typical beachy/resort-type offering of salads, sandwiches, wraps, etc. We've tried almost everything on it and can say we've never been disappointed. While I understand this restaurant is in an upscale beach resort, the prices have increased to where I consider them a little steep ($11-$15 for a sandwich; add $3 if you want fries or fruit on the side). Don't get me started on the kid's menu...it's a rip-off. Pack your kid an Uncrustable and a bag of animal crackers and save yourself $7. Drinks are best bought by the pitcher. Vodka & Lemonade, Sweet Tea Vodka & Lemonade, Sangria, and Margaritas are some of our favorites and range $28-$30/pitcher yielding approximately 6 drinks. Tate's offers many frozen fruity concoctions, but the alcohol content in the ones I've tried tastes negligible. The service is average - rather transactional. It used to be more friendly and personable; the servers would actually remember us when we hadn't visited for a year. The waitress we had at lunch today looked and acted like she was pissed off at the world. Dennis is the best pool-side server; ask for him and he'll take care of you well. We'll keep coming back to Tate's for the great eats & drinks and will take the rest with a grain of salt...it is vacation after all.

The location is of course amazing, right on the sand next to the Sand Pearl's beautiful pool. My girlfriend loved her burger but is it really that hard to make a chicken spinach salad? I ordered the poached chicken salad and was so disappointed. They advertise a 'World Class Menu' but the walnuts that come on the salad are larger than the bits of cubed chicken. The chicken wasn't seasoned and the dressing had no taste either. I'm stuffed when I go to other locations charging $12 for a salad. Guess the location is the reason. Just get drinks and eat elsewhere.

Absolutely the best sunsets! Food was excellent! The chef came over to our table to personally introduce himself (Sean) and treated us to a dessert on the house! Customer service is bar none the best. Jackie, our waitress, very tentative to our every need. Favorite place in all of Clearwater Beach for ambiance (again, sunsets are amazing), great food and outstanding customer service. Thanks, Sean and Jackie!

This restaurant is located behind one of the most beautiful Hotels I've seen, the Sandlot Hotel in Clearwater, Fl. I believe thatthe restaurant is only open to Hotel patrons, but my friend insisted that we act like we were staying there and just sneak on to the restaurant. When we walked in the front door, it felt like a scene from the movie Pretty Woman. lol. My friends and I were the only hispanic looking people that were there. We sat and enjoyed dinner at a table on the beach. Beautiful scenery and atmosphere. It makes you feel like there aren't any worried in the world. Ok, backt o the point. I ordered a steak. It was plated on top of a delightful horseradish sauce, nice texture and accompanied by a small prtion of fries, maduros ( yellow plantain) and grilled veggies. One of the best experiences of my life.

Review for drinks and view only. The view of Clearwater beach is wonderful. Night or day! I've brought people from out of town here for an afternoon cocktail. Great place for getting some sun and lovely view. Menu has a variety of cocktails.

If this review were based solely on location, it would be 4 or 5 stars. Fantastic view, right on the beach on the property of a luxury hotel. But the food is completely mediocre at best and overpriced. But I can't think of a better place to enjoy the beach and have a drink and snack.
